What went well?
In terms of things that went right, we would say that the aesthetic of "The Amphibian Odyssey" is compelling and quite cohesive. We envisioned "The Amphibian Odyssey" to have a fun and full of vibes feel to it, which our artist (Wendy) and programmer (Michael) did an amazing job implementing. It was so cool on how our programmer (Michael) added NPC dialogue for the game as well as using shaders to strengthen the aesthetic of the level. Our artist (Wendy) did an exceptional job at creating illustrations for the cutscenes, which showcases the story and background for our game. Our character designer (Tristian) created the frog models (NPCs included), the bird, and the animations for both, which he did an outstanding job! Our level designer (Erik) worked on different types of levels and set the tone on difficulty, which he did an excellent job despite the complications. The UI interface is such a cool interaction for players as they're able to pause the game or get help in the main menu, which our UI designer (Julio) did a good job!
What went wrong?
The development process was pretty hard for my team, especially dealing with time constraints, design challenges, and GitHub issues. GitHub was a great way in keeping everyone on the same page, but on the other hand GitHub caused great difficulty. We weren't able to merge or at times connect to the repository, which prevented a fair bit of work and levels our team did separately to not be implemented in this final build of our game. Additionally, this issue intertwined with design challenges as levels needed to get changed while at the same time trying to keep our game balanced. Lastly, time constraints caused some issues for our team as many of us had to deal with different classes or responsibilities, so finding a time for everyone to meet was rather hard and limited collaboration/communication throughout this project.
Changes
A major change that we had with this project was changing the player movement from keyboard bindings to a mouse left-click. Due to this, we had to start over by changing basically all of the level designs and elaborately figure out on designing the puzzles as well. Furthermore, a minor change to the UI was scraping out the pause button and replacing it with the Esc key.
